Pep talk

Children are fascinating to watch, as they carry on with their innate ability to imagine, creating a world so real and original to them with their imagination. The boys imagining driving police cars, while the girls playing the imaginary mom & care giver. You see, while they imagine, they make effort to put their creativity into use as they built these cars and prepare meals with objects they find around them. Interestingly, the act of dreaming and imagining things follows us into our adulthood, but where most of us miss it is the part where we're supposed to connect it to our creativity (like children), by using the tools around us to transform our dreams into reality. Dreams are like ideas, as crazy and as ridiculous as they may seem, they only appear that way because they're in their discovery stages and may not look like anything close to the final product, but when they are subjected to "refining and processing", the bigger picture becomes clearer and appreci

Lost Files

About seven of us had been selected, as leaders from our respective CDS groups, to serve as leaders overseeing Corp members in different polling centres and units across the city of PortHarcourt. The assignment was clear and simple, get citizens verified & registered and also avoid the intrigues of local politics, as Corpers are supposed to be non-partisan. I was assigned to oversee Civic Centre area all the way to Lagos street and I was prepared not to fail.  A shabby training was organised for us, with the expectation that we would use our ingenuity to improvise where we may feel necessary, afterall we were graduates. The exercise eventually started. My position, as with other leaders meant that we were responsible for all the corp members under our units, especially as it pertained to welfare & safety. Of course we had heard a lot of stories and seen some scenes for ourselves how this downtown zone can be very tensed. It was going to be one step at a time, and any sign of b

What do you see today?

God spent six days creating the world - sun, moon, plants, animals, man and He rested on the seventh, beholding all that He had created as perfect. He was so detailed & meticulous in His creation to capture all that man needed to survive and then gave man dominion over all. By creation, we are first spiritual beings before our physical manifestation, our spirit gives life to our physical body. Little wonder, it is often said that all things are created twice (first in our thoughts, before physically creating them). One of the attributes we took after God is the art of creating. We are co-creators with God. He gave us trees, but with creativity man has gone on to create furniture from it. God gave us steel, but man has also gone on to build ships, vehicles, machineries etc. from it. The architect who is saddled with designing a building first pictures it in his mind before he/she proceeds to design. The question then that we need to answer today is, What are we using the gift of vis

Hourglass

In an ever changing and dynamic world, what seemed to matter ten years ago doesn’t seem to matter now and most likely certain things that matter today will fade away few years from now. It almost seems to appear like while the world is still trying to adjust and settle into a new innovation another one sprouts and the chase continues. As is often said, “Time waits for no man”, the clock just keeps ticking. Imagine a world where there was no passing away of time and everything just existed, that would be really something.  Time remains the most important resource available to mankind, how effectively it is utilized & exploited solely lies with individuals. The world has witnessed phenomenal changes over the years in the fields of Medicine, Science, Engineering, and Technology: which has given birth to Artificial Intelligence, and this has revolutionized the delivery of Healthcare, Manufacturing, Transportation, Communication etc. An average active adult male or female will most like

Nigeria of my dream.

A Nigerian It was another rainy day in the city of Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, a typical characteristic of this coastal city in Southern Nigeria. My father (a devoted Naval Officer) was away on National assignment, but thankfully my uncle & grandmother (now late) were available to assist my mother arrive in good time at the hospital as her labour signs had become very apparent. Yes, I was the one that had been tucked away in her womb these past nine months, now yearning and eager to make my grand entry and appearance into the world.  As is the tradition of the people of my tribe in South-Western Nigeria, the Yorubas, with the circumstances surrounding my birth (given that my father was not around), it was already clear what one of my names would be, yes you guessed right, Bidemi! As an adult now, my parents would tell me stories of how admirable I was a child and how our neighbours at Borokiri, Port-Harcourt (lovely city with lovely people), would always carry me and loved on me

Our Environment in Focus

Today our attention is drawn to caring for our environment. Nature has gifted us with all the beautiful things that we see and feel around us. The air that we breathe, the soil beneath our feet and water for our satisfaction. These three components form the very basis of our existence, what some would describe as Land, Air and Sea. It is from it we derive our food, clothing and shelter. However, in the quest of man to understanding his environment and fully exploiting it for growth & development, the environment has been battered in the process, taken from and being on the receiving end without any deliberate or conscious act to give back to it. Even though the campaign for environmental sustainability is mounting, many still carry on like nothing is wrong while our resources continue to deplete everyday, thus threatening the rich biodiversity this planet once knew. We have a task in our hands to protecting the environment from further damage. There might be actions that ought to b
